PDMS heads to Chester

One of the most exciting benefits of working at PDMS is our Social Club who recently organised a fantastic team trip to Chester!

The Social Club is run by a team of ten who take it in turns to organise a selection of events throughout the year for us to enjoy. Staff contribute to the Social Club directly from our salaries then PDMS very generously match our contributions, so the team have plenty to play with when organising our events. With more people working remotely, Social Club events are the perfect opportunity to come together and catch up while having fun. 

In the last 12 months, the Social Club have planned a whole host of activities including: 

• Laser Mayhem
• Fynoderee Tram to Ramsey with drinks at the Fyn Bar
• Coasteering around Peel Castle
• Christmas party at the Sound
• A trip to the theatre to watch Evita
• 30th anniversary party in May last year

Every two years, the Social Club organises a trip for members to go away for the weekend, covering the cost of hotels, flights and an activity. Previous trips include London in 2022, Bristol in 2020, Manchester in 2018 and more. 

For 2024, the Social Club decided on the historic city of Chester and planning for the trip began back in October 2023. The team from the Isle of Man office flew to the UK on Saturday morning and back on Sunday afternoon, staying at the Moxy hotel which overlooks the canal and is just a few minutes' walk from the city centre. 

We were even able to catch up with Suzanne, Cameron and Hannah who travelled down from across the UK and Scotland to meet us. 

On the Saturday, some people enjoyed lunch at the Boathouse alongside the River Dee, while others hit the high street for some shopping or Rileys Sports Bar for some AR Digital Darts.

We all then reconvened in the evening to enjoy a stroll through the city to Deva After Dark, an immersive, actor-led experience which took us back to Roman Chester in the fortress of Deva Victrix. We were led through Viking longboats, market streets, into battle with shields and more! There were plenty of scares and laughs which set us up perfectly for a pub crawl around Chester's historic pubs before a meal at Rio Steakhouse. The hardy few finished the night in a nightclub in a converted church, while others headed back to the hotel for a well-earned rest. 

On Sunday, there was more shopping, sightseeing and leisurely brunches before heading back to the airport to fly home. 

We all enjoyed a brilliant weekend, having a laugh and making the most of the sights in Chester. It's such a pleasure to be part of the PDMS team and be able to make such brilliant memories!
