International expert Adrian Reed shares practical Business Analysis tips

'Avoid the Dark Dead-Ended Rabbit Holes' was the advice given at the latest Business Analyst Network event on the Isle of Man.

Sponsored and hosted by PDMS at our office, the event saw fifty local Business Analysts (BAs) enjoy an enlightening presentation by Adrian Reed, an international speaker, consultant and author on topics relating to business analysis.

The informative discussion entitled “Avoid the Dark Dead-Ended Rabbit Holes: A Thin Slice of Problem Analysis” reflected on examples of projects-gone-bad and how developing a Project Concept Summary can help reduce the risk of providing an expensive wrong solution. Following which attendees had the opportunity to network over canapés and drinks.

Adrian Reed commented:

"The community of BAs in the Isle of Man is thriving and their engagement in their own professional development is exemplary. I thoroughly enjoyed visiting the Island to deliver this talk and hope it gave some practical insights for those who attended."

Chris Gledhill, PDMS CEO, added:

"We were proud to host and sponsor the second event for this network, which brings together Business Analysts from across lots of industries in the Isle of Man, with the aim of growing and educating the community. It also offers a great opportunity for them to network, share insights with each other and learn from leading experts."

Alexandra Koyfman, Business Analyst at PDMS, commented:

"Adrian is very prestigious in our industry and his presentation was superb. It provided us with some great insights into problem analysis. He reminded us that we need to make sure we fully understand the problem before looking at possible solutions and gave us some great tools to use in the project initiation process."

Speaking for the Business Analyst Network (Isle of Man), Bronia Anderson-Kelly thanked PDMS for their enthusiastic support and added:

"The network has now grown to nearly one hundred analysts and the keenness of its members to get involved in events is attributed to our ability to draw great industry speakers through the support of companies like PDMS as well as the commitment to continued learning by the local pool of talented BAs."

The next event is planned to showcase local projects and techniques and is to be delivered by a range of Island-based analysts, with details soon to be announced.
