My work experience in Marketing at PDMS

Written by Pawel Zembrzuski, about his week working alongside our Marketing Team

Who am I?

I’m currently an A-level student at Ballakermeen High School, going into my final year. I’m studying Maths, Biology and ICT, and I’m looking to get into a career in accounting, marketing or finance, either through university or an apprenticeship.

I was lucky enough to be invited to spend a week at PDMS to gain some marketing work experience. The aim was to help me understand more about working in an office and decide what I wanted to do in the future.

What I did at PDMS

Throughout my four days at PDMS, I learned numerous different skills and met countless genuinely kind people.

On my first day at PDMS, I was welcomed into the company by Barb, who gave me a tour of the entire building and introduced me to different members along the way. She then introduced me to the marketing team,  who I would stay with for the remainder of the week. One of my first tasks was to familiarise myself with the company, so I researched PDMS by reading their story on their website.

I also attended my first meeting through Teams, which allowed me to gain a new experience that will help me in future office environments. Additionally, I went through different marketing systems with Hannah, including SocialPilot and Canva, which are types of Content Management Systems. Alongside this, I got an insight into LinkedIn Ads, HotJar, GatorLeads and Semrush, which marketers could use frequently. With some previous experience in social media, everything was new and allowed me to expand my knowledge.

The next day, I completed another project meeting with Hannah and Henry, which gave me an insight into how market research works. In addition, I was set the task of writing a tech-related article for the website to develop my writing skills. I chose the focus of my article to be about how AI has developed marketing, so I spend my afternoon researching different uses of AI in the process of marketing.

On the third day, I had a meeting with Jane about Social Value, which I have never considered before in a workplace. This meeting helped me understand the importance of ethics in a workplace, and to ensure a firm is supporting different causes and communities, which PDMS is great at! She also helped me learn about transferable skills in different work placements which could help me find a job in the future. For the rest of the day, I completed my article and started publishing it on Umbraco, where it could be then added onto the PDMS website.

For my final day, I completed some market research on jurisdictions which PDMS could work with in the future. I used various, new AI tools like Perplexity for in-depth research, which also helped me make some final adjustments to my article. I also spoke to some accountants at PDMS who gave me some advice for future internships I will be applying for.

How I found my work experience?

Based on my experience with previous job placements, I can say this was the most insightful, engaging and rewarding place I've worked in. The whole team at PDMS has made me feel supported and welcomed, and I believe that I have learned an enormous amount of things which could be transferred into different workplaces. Although I may be unsure of what I want to do in the future, Hannah has ensured that I have spoken to a variety of different people at PDMS, which allowed me to understand what they do, and their journey to get there.

Overall, this work experience has changed my view in marketing of what I thought it would be like, and that it's an amazing career to get into. As well as something I can put on my personal statement, I will also use this experience to build on as I continue getting more placements in the future. Thank you PDMS!
