PDMS through employed.im was delighted to support JA Alumni Isle of Man in continuing to form connections for future entrepreneurs

employed.im (part of PDMS) is pleased to support Junior Achievement (JA) Alumni Isle of Man, through sponsorship for 2018, to allow the Isle of Man group to continue promoting the network of talented individuals locally and internationally. The sponsorship will cover costs such as marketing materials, events and hosting guest speakers, encouraging networking and collaboration between other JA Alumni nations throughout Europe.

JA Alumni Isle of Man was founded in August 2016 and is part of JA Alumni Europe. It has been set-up to provide former participants of JA programmes with further experiences and opportunities. The network allows these entrepreneurial individuals to keep in touch with like-minded people, strengthening their capabilities on an international level. There are twenty official member nations of JA Alumni Europe, all with their own board members and alumni activities.

Sarah Rapp, president of JA Alumni Europe travelled from Malta to the Isle of Man on Thursday 8th Feb for an evening of ‘Pizza Making with the President’, hosted at Noa Bakehouse. This was a great opportunity for the Island’s alumni to gather for the first event of 2018, and meet in a relaxed environment – getting to know one another better through making pizza and drinks! The event was a great hit, with twenty members from around the Island turning out the dough with the Noa team, meeting fellow competitors from the Company Programme and catching up on what they have been doing since leaving school.

Each country hosts their own events for local alumni members (such as Thursday’s pizza making evening) and takes turns to host international gatherings, encouraging alumni to attend from all over Europe. The main event this year is the JA Alumni Annual Conference held in Tallinn, Estonia – alumni from all over Europe will gather for the four day conference with workshops, speakers and networking. More information about the international JA Alumni conference can be found at www.create18.eu.

Every nation has a President and PDMS’ Nick Collins holds this position in the Isle of Man. Every Spring and Fall these National Coordinators meet, hosted in different European cities, to help develop future JA Alumni initiatives. Also, part of the JA Alumni Europe communications team, leading his Graphic Design skills to the organisation, working alongside colleagues Donald (Switzerland), Katka (Czech Republic), Laura (Germany) and Adrian (Romania).

JA Alumni Isle of Man's National Coordinator and PDMS Front End Developer, Nick Collins, addresses JA Alumni

Nick has been very involved with JA since he participated in the Company Programme whilst at Ballakermeen High School. Nick’s team won the Isle of Man Company Programme in 2014, and he then pursued his entrepreneurial flair by volunteering with the JA the team over the summer, before they took him on to complete a one year internship. PDMS met Nick through his involvement with the charity and he joined our Design team in 2015. Nick’s work with JA over the years has fostered his interest in JA Alumni and he is now a member of the European communications team.

Nick comments, “Through my involvement with Junior Achievement I have been able to meet a variety of talented individuals from across Europe who share a passion for entrepreneurship. It’s an honor to hold the post of representative for the Isle of Man and it’s fantastic to see people thriving after they’ve completed the Company Programme through the support of JA”.

PDMS has been a long-standing supporter of JA – managing director Chris Gledhill is on the board and several staff are involved in judging ‘Pitch It’ presentations, mentoring for the Company Programme, and also volunteer in the Island’s schools to support the Get a Job programme, focused on preparing students for work after leaving education.

employed.im is the Isle of Man’s jobs, skills and employability portal, run by PDMS, and is pleased to sponsor the JA Alumni Isle of Man’s efforts to support aspiring young individuals beyond the Company Programme and education.
