Isle of Man Government Website launches new RSS feed services![]() The Isle of Man Government has launched a new service via its web portal www.gov.im that delivers news and content directly to people’s desktops; a quick and convenient way of keeping up to date with Isle of Man Government news. The content is provided using RSS feeds which deliver Isle of Man Government news, as soon as it is published, to the user without them having to visit the portal to find the information for themselves. Many world class web sites now offer users XML versions of their content using the RSS (Really Simple Syndication) format. However, the Isle of Man Government is unique in that, unlike many other jurisdictions, news originating from all of the Government’s diverse agencies, divisions and departments can be aggregated into one single news feed. The Government’s Information Systems Division have worked with PDMS, the Isle of Man Government’s software development partner, to develop and implement this new service. Users can choose to receive all of the news published on the Government portal or news from a particular division or agency e.g. Treasury. In addition, there is also the option to receive feeds on news that is of interest to the business community or news relevant to people visiting the Isle of Man. Subscribing to this new service is quick and easy. The new RSS service can be accessed by visiting the Government’s home page www.gov.im where you can, if necessary, follow links to RSS readers; which you will need to view the news feeds if you don’t already have one. There are on-going plans to expand upon the new RSS news feed service in the future by launching more tailored feeds which, for example, would announce the latest aircraft arrivals and departures from Ronaldsway Airport or new events from the Department of Tourism and Leisure. The new RSS service is another value add service that provides customer focussed information whilst maximising the use of the Website’s Microsoft .NET technology platform. It re-iterates Isle of Man Government’s commitment together with key technology providers, to deliver agile and responsive solutions in today’s fast-paced technology environment. |
