‘Ask the Police’ Website now available on BlackberryA new version of PNLD’s successful ‘Ask the Police’ website and database has been developed by PDMS for use on Blackberry mobile devices. Many Police Officers in England and Wales have been issued with Blackberries and the new version of the ‘ask the police’ site means that they have access to a large database of frequently asked questions and answers whilst they are out on the beat. The core FAQ site was already designed to recognize the device you are using e.g. Blackberry or PC and automatically displays the relevant version. The ‘Ask the Police’ website and database, delivered by PNLD using PDMS’ Foundations TM technology, provides answers to Frequently Asked Questions regarding everyday police and legal matters. The site, which was launched last year and is available to the general public at www.askthe.police.uk , aims to reduce the amount of non urgent calls received by each Force’s call handlers, allowing them to concentrate on the urgent calls. The national police database of FAQs generates savings in both time and money for each Force thus increasing resources for operational policing. The ‘Ask the Police’ database is also an invaluable resource for the staff at police call centres. It will save time, ensure more consistency in responses to questions which are troubling callers and help to deliver vital time savings for front line police officers. As well as a wide selection of nationally asked questions, local Police Forces can provide their own region specific information to provide a local service to their local community. The ‘Ask the Police’ project has already received a commendation in the Information Age Effective IT Awards and recently reached the finals of the e-Government National Awards 2005, sponsored by the Cabinet’s e-Government Unit and the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister. |
